A Lesson on Lying and Friendship

While speaking with my 10 year old tonight about the consequences of telling lies for a paragraph he had to write for class. I had to explain to him that lies will almost always be found out. It was hard trying to explain these examples to my young Aspie, I found it was easier to give him these examples:

~My husband and I both told him that no matter how deep you plant a seed in the ground, you pile it with a lot of dirt to try to hide it and eventually it will break through the ground and be seen.

~My husband used an example of heavy cloud cover, that covers the sun (the truth), eventually the clouds will pass, and the sun will be revealed.

Elijah, doesn't really see the point in lying (I don't believe, because he can be brutally honest), as an Aspie he has always been honest. I hope he never starts lying. I found a scripture to me that translates as, "God loves Aspies".

The LORD detests lying lips, but he delights in men who are truthful. Proverbs 12:22

In this little lesson on lying, we somehow got on the issue of learning from others. My husband asked our son, "If you want to be a millionare, are you going to go and ask the beggar on the corner how to be a millionare?" Elijah said, "No" and Huck asked, "Who would you ask?" "A millionare" said Elijah laughing.

I proceeded to tell Elijah that the same works in the opposite, if you want to be sick, go hang around sick people. If you want to be happy, be around happy people. Be around people that have admirable traits, that are honorable and honest. It reminds me of this scripture...

Proverbs 27:17
“As iron sharpens iron, So a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.”

It is a great reminder, that we can either be hindered or refined and made better by our friendships. Take a look around you, are you being sharpened or dulled?
